Billy lives in north England with his father, older brother and his grandmother. Billy and his family lives in a poor society. Sarah ( Billys mother ) has been dead about a year. 

There is a  mine strike. So Billys father and brother Tony dont go to work. 

Billy takes responsibility for himself and his family. He dares to stand up for what he does , even if the only support he gets from the family is from the old demented grandmother. 

Billy is going to give his grandmother breakfast, but she is not in her bed. Billy goes out to look after her. Thats shows how responsibility he is.

Billys father wants Billy to do boxing. But Billy start to take ballet classes as a secret. But when his dad finds out that he get super angry.

 ”Boys dont do ballet, they do fotball, boxing” his father says.

But Billy keeps on taking ballet classes in privacy. And soon his dance teacher talks to Billys father. When she tells him about a ballet school in London, Billys father start thinking.

Billys mother always loved music. Thats why Billy likes music and ballet so much.

Billys best friend Michael starts acting wierd. Micheal has a crush on Billy. But Billy dont care so much.

Billys father accept that he going to a ballet school audition. Billy camed in to the ballet school. Then Tony, grandmother and his father is taking goodbye to him. The last scene is when the strike has ended. And Billy is a professional dancer.
